Little Drummer Boy
16 Aug
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.
~ Henry David Thoreau
Bullhead started kindergarten this past Wednesday. In true Aspie fashion, he had his first meltdown on Thursday. Because my sister works 12 hour shifts, Sybil will occasionally get him to or pick him up from school. On Thursday, she was at his classroom door to pick him up ahead of schedule. When he saw her through the window, he threw himself to the floor and yelled repeatedly: “You cannot make me go with you. My momma said I could ride the bus like a big boy.” (Flea Fly said that one day he could ride the bus, but she did not give a specific day.) It took Sybil and the classroom teacher’s aide to get him to the car while the other students were dismissed to their parents or put on the bus. On Friday, his teacher, a close personal friend of Sybil’s told her at drop off, “Bullhead definitely marches to the beat of his own drummer.” Yes, he does have a Thoreau-like quality to him. It should be an interesting school year.

God bless you for loving this boy. He sounds so wonderfully loved. ((hug))
He does have a strong will! It will come in handy when he needs to stick to his convictions later in life. Love that little guy to the moon!
lol i can see most people on plurk throwing a tantrum like he did for some odd reason
This scenario is all too familiar to me… but hooray for different drums and the drummers who give us such complex and glorious rhythms.
@ Claudia – He is a joy.
@ Perpstu – I love you for saying he has a strong will.
@ Godfather – Never on Plurk. LOL
@ Citizenjaney – I knew you would appreciate this entry.
He knows what he wants. How many people can say that? I hope that the school appreciates and understands his individuality.
