This is wrong on so many levels. Do you remember the Matthew Wilder song “Break My Stride”?
Ain’t nothin’ gonna to break my stride
Nobody’s gonna slow me down, oh-no
I got to keep on movin’
Ain’t nothin’ gonna break my stride
I’m running and I won’t touch ground
Oh-no, I got to keep on movin’
I googled it to see who sang it and check the lyrics for a whole other idea for today’s post. I found the lyrics on website called OLDIE LYRICS. I was mortified. I remember this song from middle school; I was 12 years old when it came out in 1983. Boog chided, “Doesn’t that make you feel really old?” Sure, Boog, go ahead and rub salt in the wound. I am getting older, but I am not 40! Oooh, burn!
I don’t care what anyone says. The 80s were the best decade for music and for singers who looked like Luigi from Super Mario Brothers. It’s just hard to accept that I remember watching this video on Solid Gold 25 years ago. Damn! I am getting older.
The title for this post is courtesy of Boog in his best Mr. Garrison voice. He exudes snarkiness at times. I really would like to see him start his own blog and call it “Help! I’ve Turned 40, And I’m Stuck in the 80s.”

This was one of the major walk-up songs for a 21-projector awards ceremony for Magic Market (once competitor of 7-11) that I worked on in the 80’s… ahhh memories. The very next year it was the theme from Flashdance.
The 80’s were indeed a magical time to be a child/teen! The music is still my favorite - My heart still leaps at the opening bars of Faithfully by Journey and starts racing for anything off Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet album.
I’m so sad that my decade of music is now considered “oldies”.
The local oldies channel added 80’s to their roster just this year in fact.
I’m pretty sure Mr. Chili can sing about every song from the 80’s. As a matter of fact, he pulled out the Pretty in Pink soundtrack on Saturday morning - we were grooving to “Round, Round Again” and other unforgettable hits. He’s such a dork, but I love him to pieces…
It IS freaky that our music is considered “oldies.” I came to this realization a year or two ago when I heard A Flock of Seagulls “I Ran” Muzak-ed in a grocery store. I literally shuddered; Muzak makes everything sound awful.
Oh, major ’80s music fan here. Loved the music to bits; pretty much all of it, actually.
Nunsense, that’s “Majik” Market, right?
Mrs. Chili, the worst Muzak I ever heard was “Don’t Fear the Reaper.”
I think “Rebel Yell” is the worst muzaked version I’ve ever heard.
I was at Occidental college in 1983 then, after wanting to kill myself and everyone there, I transfered to UC Berkeley that year. It was a very very good year. Change from someplace dark and toxic to some place wild and fun… I had SOOO much fun at Cal. hint… hint…
Oh 1980s music… I don’t know. Some of it is pretty stupid - but fun none the less.
I saw jelly shoes at DSW Shoes over the weekend. Or, as we call them now…”old-timey jelly shoes.”
right you are Bo. Majik.
Oh I remember that song. How about Kajagoogoo? Or AEIOU and Sometimes Y by Eben Ozen? Or Wouldn’t It Be Good by Nik Kershaw? I just totally dated myself strictly for your sake
I Loved that song. I still love that song! ROFL at the “Luigi from Super Mario Bros”
The 80’s rock! Remember watching Solid Gold, and I loved to watch Star Search too!
Starrlight: Good calls. I think I still know all of the words to “A E I O U Sometimes Y.”
