I Read Banned Books

I took one for the team on Wednesday. Yes, I was hit and thrown to the ground by a student while attempting to break up a fight between him and someone who called him a retard. No, he’s not a retard, but he is probably psychotic. This incident will remain etched in my mind for years to come because I did press charges against him for battery. He had to be physically restrained by my partner as he was out of control, swinging not only at me but anyone who tried to assist. What concerns me most was the police arrived 25-30 minutes after the 9-1-1 call, and over 300 students and adult bystanders thought we were restraining him because he had a gun. He was not armed with anything more powerful than his fists and his rage. For approximately 15 minutes, he roared like an animal. I am not joking. Something beastial emanated from his throat … his mind … his soul … as he was forced into submission. Was I scared? Never. Was I hurt? Only my pride. Does he hurt? Obviously. Let’s hope that he gets the help he obviously needs.
