Do or don’t believe the critical mass of people who say Lady in the Water is self-indulgent. I purposely did not read any early reviews of this film nor hold any expectations for it as a “thriller.” In fact, it is probably my personal favorite of Shyamalan’s last five films. At it simplest form, it is a bedtime story conceived for his own children to explain what happens in their swimming pool at night. Perhaps it is just the child in me, but I absolutely loved this movie. The characters and their respective actors are not only wonderful but also full of wonder.
This is a “think outside of the box” movie. It is important to remember that there are themes that transcend all cultures and that is the reason that stories are important. Like the characters in the movie, the viewers are taken on a voyage of self-discovery. Faith, hope, and charity are the passengers.
For those of you would did and/or will see the movie, my final comment/question is: Are you more like a healer, a symbol interpreter, a guardian, or part of a guild?
